AFL Footy Finals 2007: X-Factors
September 6th 2007 01:51
Welcome back to Sport Talk! Or if you're a first time visitor - Welcome!
Now that all the usual conversation is out the way:
Mr 1: Gee, is it finals time already?
Mr 2: Yeh, this weekend actually.
Mr 1: Far out, I can't believe the season went so quickly!
Mr 2: It seems to go quicker every year!
Does it really though? Or are we all just sad that the end is nigh for another year...
Repeat after me: 'I love cricket' 'I love cricket' 'I love Twenty20'
It doesn't feel the same does it?
Regardless, 2007 AFL finals football - or Septopia - as the mother ship calls, is ready to wind up and hit full force this weekend.
Today, Sport Talk compares the team X-Factors from AFL.com.au with some ideas of our own. Read on.
Geelong
AFL.com.au - Nathan Ablett
Sporttalk.com.au - Gary Ablett Jnr
C'mon Fonzie! What about Gazza? Brownlow Medal favouritism must count for something. Nathan could be the G-Factor, having kicked goals in most games this season, but little Gary is light years ahead in terms of changing a game with his own boot.
Port Adelaide
AFL.com.au - Daniel Motlop
Sporttalk.com.au - Brett Ebert
52 goals for the season to date for excellent Ebert, making him Port's leading goal kicker. Motlop is the other link in the chain and a definite factor, but not the big fat X. Chad Cornes is another cornerstone of the Port Adelaide lineup, and has accumulated phenomenal stats again in 2007.
Cornes has amassed 562 disposals and booted 16 goals. In this side, it's hard to find one game breaker.
West Coast
AFL.com.au - Adam Hunter
Sporttalk.com.au - Daniel Kerr
Enough said.
Hawthorn
AFL.com.au - Lance Franklin
Sporttalk.com.au - Lance Franklin
Can't disagree with this one, Fonz is spot on. Buddy is a sensation, a revelation. One of the most exciting and talented players in the game, Franklin also possesses an X-factor rarely matched in the competition. His performance in round 21 was staggering. “Buddy” kicked 2.11, but it was the fact he had 13 scoring shots that was exceptional. He has the ability to turn a match within minutes and rip the opposition apart. Franklin has booted 63 goals for the season and looms as a September specialist.
