AFL Finals 2007: News and Views
September 11th 2007 02:26
Welcome back to Sport Talk. Or if you're a first time visitor, welcome, hope you have an enjoyable time here!
Well week one of the 2007 AFL finals has been and gone!
Let's recap some results:
Port Adelaide defeated West Coast by three points, 68 to 65
Hawthorn defeated Adelaide by three points, 105 to 102
Collingwood defeated Sydney by 38 points, 125 to 87
Geeling defeated North Melbourne by 106 points, 156 to 50
Best game of the weekend, without doubt was Hawthorn's come from behind, almost after the siren, win against the Crows.
Lance 'Buddy' Franklin starred with his swag of goals, and it was good to see the dangerous Adelaide eliminated before causing any trouble for the unheralded Victorian teams!
Chris Judd has something like OP and won't play this weekend! Yay, no everyone can stop talking about it. Judd was a liability against Port Adelaide, can't run, couldn't kick. Gone.
Collingwood were hot against the cold Swans in what was the most uninspiring game of the weekend. Sydney were putrid, the Magpies were OK - but obviously not going anywhere this September and likely to meet their fate against West Coast on Friday night.
The Cats have one paw on the 2007 AFL Premiership Cup after thrashing North Melbourne. The Roos don't have a good history finishing fourth and look likely to bow out in straight sets when they meet the Hawks on Saturday.
Geelong can go all the way and are worth jumping on now to win the flag. They face a prelim against either Collingwood or West Coast, both of which will be very beatable.
The AFL tribunal was very quiet this week, well actually it was silent. No one appeared.
Geelong’s Brad Ottens and the Kangaroos’ Leigh Brown are the men breathing the deepest sighs of relief this morning, after the match review panel found they had no cases to answer yesterday.
Speculation that Ottens would be cited for contact with Michael Firrito proved unfounded, while the panel reviewed Brown’s contact with Cats tagger Cameron Ling.
The panel decided Brown was watching the ball while contact was made, which was reasonable as the ball had only just been tapped away.
Tips:
This weekend, West Coast will just fall over the line against the tired Collingwood, and the Hawks will smash a disgruntled North Melbourne, sparking concern over Dean Laidley's future at the club.
Sound spot on?
Check back tomorrow for more footy focus! Don't forget the Socceroos vs Argentina tonight from the MCG!
