AFL pre-seaon draft revisited
March 21st 2007 07:20
As the 2007 AFL Premiership Season draws closer and closer, Sport Talk revisits the 2006 pre-seaons draft to see who was hot and who was not during the NAB Cup.
Here is the list:
Round One
1) Carlton Cain Ackland St Kilda
2) Essendon Mal Michael Brisbane Lions
3) Kangaroos Ben Ross Gippsland Power
4) Port Adelaide Adam Cockshell Norwood
5) Hawthorn Josh Thurgood Hawthorn
6) Richmond Kent Kingsley Geelong
7) St Kilda Matthew Clarke Adelaide
8) Collingwood Chris Bryan Carlton
Round Two
9) Carlton Cameron Cloke Collingwood
The first player that comes to mind is Cameron Cloke. Cloke was prominent for Carlton throughout the NAB Cup and looks super fit. His skin folds are at levels he could never reach at Collingwood and it appears he has turned the corner at the player.
Cloke can combine well with the Blues midfield and has an almighty kick that Fevola has already fallen in love with.
Mal Michael made a lean start to the season with the Bombers. Good, but not great, Michael will struggle with the 'hands in the back' rule that is still being talked about. Michael plays from behind and this rule must mean he will have to change his tactics. Does he have the pace to play in front?
Ben Ross was a star for Gippsland Power in the TAC Cup and is working hard to build strength. He could be a revelation by the time round 10 rolls around.
Any thoughts? Has Sport Talked missed any potential stars?
