Today Sport Talk takes a quirky look at the search engine sensation surrounding young AFL players and their girlfriends...
Type 'Sport Talk' into Google and what do you get?
A lot of Sport Talk results, including this very site at the bottom of the first page of results.
What does this have to do with the girlfriends of AFL young guns?
Well, interestingly, if you search "Dale Thomas girlfriend" you get about 700 results, including two from Sport Talk at the top of the page.
Heath Shaw girlfriend? Sport Talk is the top two results.
Danyle Pearce girlfriend?
Marc Murphy girlfriend?
All these point to Sport Talk! But why, I hear you ask, is this of any interest to anyone?
Because everyday, hundreds of people are searching for the girlfriends of young AFL footballers. Every day, Sport Talk receives a 'stat report' with all the links people clicked to visit the site.
There is an abundance of people clicking onto Sport Talk in the search for information, or perhaps photos, of the Dale Thomas' or Heath Shaw's girlfriend.
So just what are these people searching for? Or seeking to find? A biography of every chick an AFL player has got it on with?
For that, we would need a national register.
Something meaningful is going on here, the internet revolution is slowly evolving into an archive and search economy, and people using Google expect to find exactly what they want everytime.
But why are people (mostly young, single women I suspect) so obsessed with who AFL players are dating?
Or could it be young men eager to identify with the type of ladies that want to date professional sportsmen?
