AFL Results - Round 13
June 23rd 2008 00:51
Round 13 of the 2008 AFL season is complete. A few surprises kept footy tippers entertained and punters had the chance to grab some juicy odds!
Let's have a look at the results:
Sunday, June 22
Melbourne 11.8 (74) vs Sydney 17.12 (114)
Carlton 15.11 (101) vs Essendon 20.16 (136)
Collingwood 13.11 (89) vs Bulldogs 15.9 (99)
Saturday, June 21
Hawthorn 10.16 (76) vs Kangaroos 15.13 (103)
Port Adelaide 19.9 (123) vs Richmond 20.7 (127)
Brisbane 11.17 (83) vs Adelaide 10.10 (70)
West Coast 5.17 (47) vs Geelong 28.14 (182)
Friday, June 20
St Kilda 10.5 (65) vs Fremantle 8.9 (57)
Let's revisit Sport Talk's bet of the round:
Hopefully you backed St Kilda to win, to win by less than 39.5 and to lead at quarter time. A healthy start to the weekend!
Sport Talk also suggested a win bet on Essendon to beat Carlton at $3.30.
As it turned out, the Bombers creamed the Blues in the middle of the MCG. Andrew Welsh kept Chris Judd in check for most of the day and Marc Murphy butchered almost every clearing kick he had.
There was a small hiccup though, with Richmond serving it up to Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium. Hopefully you more than made up for it, backing the Saints and Bombers.
Split round coming up, tips and best bets will still be posted on Friday.

Let's revisit Sport Talk's bet of the round:
Immediately, I'm flagging St Kilda to beat Fremantle at $2.40 as Sport Talk's best bet of the round. I think the bookmakers have got this horribly wrong.
Fremantle found form against North Melbourne last week and got across the line convincingly. But the win was well overdue, and the Kangaroos had been battered by a tough game against Geelong the week before, and before that the North Melbourne were smashed by the Lions at the Gabba.
St Kilda have been beaten by Western Bulldogs and Sydney in the past fortnight. Both teams look like pressing for a top four position at season's end.
St Kilda has dropped Nick Dal Santo and Stephen Milne for tonight's game. I think this is an indication of Ross Lyon's 'heads will roll' attitude. Tonight is a test for captain Nick Riewoldt - expect him to play well.
The Saints will lead at quarter time, and should go on to win the match by less than 39.5 points. As prolific horse trainer Brian Cox would say, "back with confidence".

Sport Talk also suggested a win bet on Essendon to beat Carlton at $3.30.
Essendon, at odds of $3.30, also represents a smidgen of value against the in-form Blues on Sunday afternoon.
The Bombers beat the Blues earlier this year in a high scoring affair at the MCG, and the team lists are much the same this time around. Essendon is without Alwyn Davey, but have found some spark in recruit David Myers.
Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas have returned to form, and Essendon's midfield was all over the West Coast Eagles last Friday night at the Dome.
It's a line ball, but the Bombers are worth backing at $3.30.

After seeing them, in form against the West Crap Eagles, it was inevitable that commentators would write it off as an easy win, but hopefully Sunday's shelacking of Carlton will prove that we are a force to contend with!.
