Sport Talk - By Glen Atwell

AFL Results - Round 17

July 28th 2008 00:30
IT will be remembered as the round of horrors. AFL round 17 was a footy tipping nightmare, but for punters, it could have been paradise.

AFL Results - Round 17:

Port Adelaide 15.11 (101) vs Fremantle 20.9 (129)
Melbourne 10.10 (70) vs Kangaroos 14.14 (98)
Bulldogs 15.8 (98) vs Carlton 18.18 (126)
Essendon 19.14 (128) vs Collingwood 11.14 (80)
West Coast 15.13 (103) vs St Kilda 12.14 (86)
Richmond 18.9 (117) vs Brisbane 16.18 (114)
Sydney 6.17 (53) vs Adelaide 11.11 (77)
Hawthorn 11.11 (77) vs Geelong 12.16 (88)

Let's revisit the Sport Talk Best Bet of the Round, posted on Friday.

Sport Talk's Best Bet of the Round is Geelong to beat Hawthorn at odds above $1.40. Shop around before the game, Betfair traders will offer $1.40 and above, representing sensational short value. Back Geelong to lead at quarter-time and half-time.

Trifecta! Hope you took the juicy match odds before the bounce. Odds of around $1.70 was offered for Geelong to lead at quarter time, and about $1.60 at half time. A healthy return if you managed to jump on on all three options.

Sport Talk missed the Richmond win against Brisbane. I thought $2.30 was great value for the Lions, and it almost proved fruitful. But almost is not good enough!

The other suggested bet came through without a doubt.

Fremantle have the got the ability to beat Port Adelaide, and at $2.40 look a good option to include on your betting slip.

Well done to those who backed the Dockers at the meaty odds. Probably could have been the best bet of the round any other week.

A few teams are looking shaky in the home stretch of the 2008 AFL Premiership Season. Collingwood stumbled against the Bombers are enduring a horror stretch of patchy form.

The Magpies' discipline was disgusting on Saturday. The Pies gifted two or three goals through umpire abuse 50m penalties and seemed to drift from the match plan at crucial stages.

Something seems amiss at the Lexus Centre...

Carlton kept their finals hops alive with a battling comeback against the Bulldogs at the Dome on Sunday afternoon. Judd was left untagged for the first time in two years, the Dogs opting to let Cooney run free instead. But Cooney had a 'dog' of a day and Judd ran riot!

Sydney were disappointing and St Kilda succumbed in the west. Certainly makes the run home for a spot in the eight much more exciting!

Check back later this week for the tips and best bets for AFL Round 18.
