AFL Round 15 - Tips, Best Bets
July 11th 2008 01:26
Welcome back to Sport Talk for round 15 of the 2008 AFL Premiership Season.
Aren't we all glad that the silly split round is behind us and gone for another season. It is something the AFL seriously needs to have a look at. Players only get one or two days off and two players, Aaron Davey and Shannon Grant ended up suspended because of their behaviour during the 'break'.
Davey missed a plane back from Darwin after attending a funeral and Grant spat the dummy at a club golf day at Sandhurst in south-east Melbourne.
In a massive blow for their sides, both won't be playing this weekend. Grant's absence from the Kangaroos' team is almost enough to make you tip the Power, in what is shaping up to be a close game, Grant's two or three sneak goals might have made all the difference.
Let's have a look at the games, the odds, the venues and Sport Talk's selections for Round 15:
Carlton $1.90 vs St Kilda $1.90 - MCG
Collingwood $1.33 vs Adelaide $3.10 - MCG
Geelong $1.05 vs Fremantle $8.50 - Skilled Stadium
Essendon $2.25 vs Brisbane Lions $1.58 - Telstra Dome
Port Adelaide $1.90 vs Kangaroos $1.90 - AAMI Stadium
Hawthorn $1.38 vs Sydney Swans $2.90 - MCG
Western Bulldogs $1.07 vs Melbourne $7.50 - Telstra Dome
West Coast Eagles $1.80 vs Richmond $1.93 - Subiaco
I gave Carlton the nod after realising tonight's game will be played at the MCG and not the Telstra Dome. Carlton, and more importantly Chris Judd, Nick Stevens and Brendan Fevola, love the wide-expanses of the 'G'.
St Kilda, on paper at least, seem to prefer the Dome. It's likely to be wet, and at this stage of the season, I prefer Carlton's eager, in and under, midfield to come out on top.
Sport Talk's Best Bet of the Round is Essendon to beat Brisbane Lions at $2.50 on Saturday night. The Bombers are travelling well, having strung two consecutive wins together, including one in Fremantle two weeks back.
Bouncing off the break, Essendon looks cherry ripe to win again. Brisbane are better than their loss to Melbourne at the MCG last start, but their are some signs that their young list is vulnerable to a surprise attack.
It will be a close one. The Bombers will lead at quarter-time and will take the win by less than 39.5 points. Jump on for a healthy multi-bet return.
North Melbourne represent value at $1.93 to beat Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday. The Power are gone this year, and the Kangaroos seem to improve every week. Back the Roos with confidence.
Good luck in round 15!
