April 24th 2008 10:11
Welcome to Sport Talk's AFL Round Six selections and choice bets:
Let's have a look at who's playing and what's paying:
1.59 Collingwood v Essendon 2.68
5.5 Fremantle v Geelong 1.21
2.2 Carlton v Adelaide 1.81
1.28 Bulldogs v West Coast 4.5
1.71 Port Adelaide v St Kilda 2.38
1.12 Brisbane v Melbourne 8.6
2.02 Kangaroos v Sydney 1.94
1.27 Hawthorn v Richmond 4.3
Tips for Round 6 (margins in brackets):
Collingwood (25-37)
Geelong (25-37)
Carlton (12-24)
Bulldogs (25-37)
Port Adelaide (25-37)
Brisbane (38-50)
Kangaroos (12-24)
Hawthorn (38-50)
First off the boot is the Sport Talk bet of the week... Port Adelaide to beat St Kilda at $1.71 - I'm going for three from three this round, and I'm confident that Port will be too strong for the Saints at AAMI Stadium.
Port outclassed West Coast in the west last week and are certainly better than their two wins and three losses record represents. St Kilda were never in doubt against the Bombers last Friday night, but they've hardly been tested. Port to win by four or five goals.
When I logged on I was going to suggest a small wager on Essendon to beat Collingwood on Anzac Day by less than 39.5 points, then the bomb hit! Alwyn Davey is out! A knee injury at training will keep the game's most electrifying player out of the big one.
It's a big loss, not only to Essendon, but the game.
Power forward Courtney Johns is back in, and should help relieve some pressure on the shoulders of Bomber captain Matthew Lloyd. By gee, does Lloyd need to lift if the Bombers are going to get close.
The Pies are on the rebound after a shocking loss against Carlton and will probably beat the Dons, but expect a close encounter.
Carlton's generous dividend of $2.20 at home represents great value against Adelaide. The Blues are flying, and if they are going to beat a decent side, it will be Adelaide. Put it this way, if Fevola kicks seven or eight, Carlton cannot lose.
I'd back the Fev to ensure the Blues salute!
North Melbourne can beat the Swans, and anything better than even money is a great value bet.
