AFL Trade Week! Take The Bait! All 16 Clubs!
October 9th 2006 06:13
Sport Talk goes behind the scenes of the AFL trade period and uncovers some of the most likely market moves...
Every club, every move!
ADELAIDE
Ben Hart was advised to retire, but the 32-year-old battleaxe had other ideas. Hart was recently axed by the Crows. It is hard to see a club being interested in him
BRISBANE
Jason Akermanis is now a Bulldog. Michael Voss, Mal Michael and Brad Scott have all retired. Clark Keating was axed.
Daniel Bradshaw is out of contract and Melbourne are interested. But the Lions want a first-round draft pick and no club is willing!
The football department at the GABBA will continue to down-size.
CARLTON
Out-of-contract defender Bret Thornton wants more $ than the Blues are prepared to fork out. Hawthorn is preparing to make a three-year, $1 million offer, this deal looks a certainty.
Jordan Russell has been linked to Port Adelaide.
COLLINGWOOD
The Chris Tarrant story is a tough one. Sounds like the Magpies are listening, but only interested in a first round pick and another player.
West Coast and Fremantle are the front-runners, but does Taz want to go west?
Cameron and Jason Cloke will also be offloaded.
ESSENDON
Jason Johnson, Dean Solomon, Adam McPhee and Damien Peverill are all out of contract. Johnson has said he would walk if the Bombers do not offer him a better deal than the one-year on the table. Time is running out.
Melbourne are very keen on Johnson.
Kevin Sheedy has spoken to West Coast rebel Michael Gardiner.
FREMANTLE
The Dockers might axe veterans Shaun McManus and Troy Cook.
Chris Tarrant is target number one, but to get him they may have to give up a young midfielder like Byron Schammer, as well as their first pick in the draft. Big move and a big risk considering Tarrant's hot and cold form.
GEELONG
Andrew Mackie has been signed for another three years.
Nathan Ablett and David Wojcinski remain out of contract. It is likely Ablett will be the one to go.
Kent Kingsley walked, but to date, no clubs have shown much interest.
HAWTHORN
Peter Everitt, who is out of contract, is the biggest trade week saga.
If a deal with Sydney is not reached, Everitt may slip through to the pre-season draft. But you'd think the Hawks would take the 'something is better than nothing' approach.
The Hawks are chasing out-of-contract Carlton defender Thornton and are prepared to offer him a three year deal.
KANGAROOS
The Roos are only concerned with recruiting the best number three draft pick and won't be major players come trade time.
MELBOURNE
The Demons want Jason Johnson from Bomberland. This deal will hinge on what Melbourne are prepared to offer.
Sport Talk hears the Bombers want two draft picks or a ready made player.
PORT ADELAIDE
The Power couldn't bait Andrew Mackie from Geelong and is now looking at trading somewhere in Carlton's Jordan Russell.
The club has already retired Gavin Wanganeen, Josh Francou, Adam Kingsley and Peter Walsh. Darryl Wakelin could be another to go.
RICHMOND
The Tigers have declared Mark Coughlan off limits to the Dockers.
ST KILDA
The Saints need a kick up the ruck and have spoken to Gardiner and Everitt.
SYDNEY
Put Everitt in the 2006 Grand Final and the Swans win back-to-back. Enough said. They need a ruckman.
WEST COAST
Drew Banfield to retire. Travis Gaspar and Andrew McDougall will be used as trade bait, or delisted.
The Eagles will be keen to get Tarrant.
WESTERN BULLDOGS
What will the Dogs be prepared to lose for Akermanis?
