Sport Talk - By Glen Atwell

Aussie Footy Dictionary: Chewy On Ya Boot!

September 15th 2006 01:20
What is aerial ping pong? A squirrel grip? A White Maggot?

What’s the difference between two fingers and two flags?

Which AFL player’s arms resemble giant testicles?

What’s the difference between a Football Widow and a Widow Maker?

What makes Sam Newman, Dermott Brereton and Leigh Matthews special?

The Sport Talk desk is often inundated with commercial requests and promotions; all looking for a good old fashioned ‘shameless plug’. Most move from the in-tray to the out-tray faster than you can say ‘waste management program’.

But this book is a gem.

Aussie Footy Dictionary: Chewy On Ya Boot - Brad Kingsbury
Chewy On Ya Boot: Aussie Footy Dictionary - A must have for all AFL fans!

It’s titled ‘Chewy On Ya Boot: Aussie Footy Dictionary’ and is the book every AFL fan has been waiting for.

It is an A to Z of football footnotes, combining serious definitions with hilarious anecdotes.

“Osteitis Pubis - Important sounding description for a strained groin. There was no such affliction 10 years ago, so players didn’t mention it and just got on with the game.”

You get the idea!

Memorise these memorable one-liners and you’ll never have trouble breaking the ice again.

The Aussie Footy Dictionary is co-authored by Ian Ferguson and Brad Kingsbury. Ferguson is a long-time sports writer and has authored five books. Kingsbury is the sports editor of a leading weekly newspaper, the Pakenham Gazette.

For $19.95 this is the book your coffee tables (and toilets) have been dying for!

Available from:
