Ben Cousins suspended and drug tested
March 21st 2007 01:17
West Coast Eagles sensation Ben Cousins is in trouble again.
Again.
Having digressed once too often, Cousins have been suspended for an unspecified term, casting doubt over the future of the celebrated midfielder.
It seems like years, not six months, that the Eagles held the 2006 AFL Premiership Cup in the air.
The club's official explanation for the suspension is that Cousins missed two training sessions on Monday. Rumours and innuendo are already flying. Did Cousins turn up to the club's jumper presentation on Sunday in a "less than acceptable state"?
There is also the now confirmed report of a dust up between Eagles team-mates Daniel Chick and Andrew Embley.
The story goes that Cousins was staying at the home of Chick. Embley, his wife, Rayne, and Cousins’ former girlfriend, Samantha Druce, paid a Sunday night visit.
Apparently, Druce and Chick began arguing at which point Embley stepped in. That sparked an altercation between the two Eagles players, spilling into Monday at the club and ending only when Chick stormed out.
Eagles chairman Dalton Gooding has confirmed the incident took place. "Certainly [Eagles coach] John Worsfold will be working with Daniel Chick and Andrew Embley to sort that issue out, and I have enormous confidence in John's ability to do that."
What an utter mess! It reads like a script reading for Home & Away, not the actual situation two weeks before the 2007 Home & Away season begins!
Only days after making the revelation (or confirming what most of the football community had long suspected) Cousins was summoned to the club to undergo an AFL sanctioned drug test.
The results of that test will be known in a matter of days. The only way the result will be made public though, is if it's Cousins' third positive test.
This is in line with the AFL's drug policy of keeping the first two strikes from the public arena.
But this is hardly the big issue for West Coast. A once strong team is beginning to have its foundations shook.
Does it mean the end of the Eagles' chances of going back-to-back in 2007?

However I think that the general public out there (yes that means you) are all jumping on the band wagon once again and mercilessly crucifying someone that you don't care about and/or are just plain jealouse of.
Facts, The guy has made a mistake, it's obviouse he can't handle the fame, does that mean that he never should play for the Eagles again? Please get a grip on yourselves and just sit back and look at the career of someone who has excelled to the be one of the finest players in the history of the game.
Yes he made a big mistake, and that will live with him forever whether he bounces back from the last two years of press or not. Noone will ever forget what he did and you can be sure that neither will he whenever he leaves his front door to perform the every day chores of life.
Now ask yourself if your agression, anger and respnses are justified to what he actually has done? or is the fact that most of you are simply dead set jealouse and can see your chance to slander someone that you don't even know?
Next time you feel like looking down the barrel at high profile sport stars like Ben, try shooting yourlsef for the mistakes you made in life that probably hurt your family and freinds, not to mention your character.
Go the Lions!
