Sport Talk - By Glen Atwell

Your say on Bob Woolmer...

March 23rd 2007 04:50
Bob Woolmer's death was not an accident, according to Jamaican police.

So what happened? Sport Talk has indulged readers with details of the investigation over the last few days and now wants to hear your opinion?

How did Bob Woolmer die?

Speculation is rife amongst Australian media circles, even more so in the sub-continent.

More than $1 billion is wagered, mostly illegally, on each World Cup cricket game. Can we already draw connections between Pakistan's 'shock' opening match loss and the death of its coach?

Or the fact that Woolmer was just putting finishing touches on a 'tell all' book, revealing the ins and outs of cricket betting, who it affected and how?

Woolmer was strangled to death.

My two cents:

There had to be a connection between betting and Woolmer's death.

Did Pakistan throw the game?

How did Ireland make it through to the final eight of the World Cup?

This is only the beginning...?

I am convinced Ben Cousins murdered him with an ice-pick ... It's pure speculation at this stage but the evidence is mounting up ...

When you say ice-pick? Can you describe this instrument?

Totally agree with Glenn - has to be betting related - not that I am suggesting that Pakistani (or Indian) cricket is corrupt at all.

Coulda been VooDoo To!!

The most disturbing part for me was the connection with the tell-all book, a shock loss to Ireland and so much illegal betting.

I hold no reservations about why major events in under developed countries always attract scandal.

This would not happen in Australia, Britain or South Africa.

A national coach has been murdered. The World Cup should be cancelled and the investigations continue.

Although I do believe someone has been arrested in relation to Woolmer's murder.

I think the latest reports out of Jamaica are that the initial arrest report was false.

Cheers,

Oh gee...

It's hard to get the real news, if there is such a thing.

Thanks StephenP.
