Cavaliers Plan To Keep Number 1 and 4 Picks In Draft

The general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chris Grant, said his team is planning on using the number one and number 4 overall picks on Thursday. Grant told ESPN's Jeannine Edwards that he knows who he wants to select with those two picks but he discuss them with his staff members. Duke's point guard, Kyrie Irving or Arizona's forward, Derrick Williams are expected to be the number one overall pick, most likely Kyrie Irving. If the Cleveland Cavaliers select Kyrie Irving Tonight, he will be the third point guard in four years to be taken number one overall including last year's John Wall, and Derrick Rose in 2008. Just like what every college analysts had said about Irving, Grant has concern for Irving for the lack of playing time in college. Kyrie Irving has only played 11 games in college basketball. Grant believes that Irving can handle playing for the Cavaliers since they have looked into Irving's injury and are “comfortable” about his status. The Cleveland Cavaliers had tried to play in getting the number two spot from Minnesota Timber wolves so they can have both Irving and Williams since the Timber wolves have been opened to offers but are reluctant to give up their highest pick in franchise history. The owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Dan Gilbert, his son, Nick, the team's “good luck charm” in the draft lottery, will be calling in the team's two first round selections. On Monday, the Cavaliers held its last round of workouts by hosting Williams, Enes Kanter, the Turkish Center, and Brandon Knight from Kentucky at its surburban training facility.
