Gene Chizik Gets Raise

After winning the BCS National Championship, Auburn Tigers coach, Gene Chizik is getting a $1.3 million dollars increase on his salary. Last year, coach Chizik earned 2.2 million dollars. Now, he has agreed to a new contract for $3.5 million dollars annually that will run through 2015. Auburn's athletic director, Jay Jacob said, “We believe that we have the best coach in college football.” With his new contract, Gene Chizik could earn up to $4.5 million dollars including incentives. Last season, he cashed in 1.3 million dollars by winning the national title and national coach of the year. With his new increased salary, Chizik is ranked fourth among SEC coaches. The Alabama head coach, Nick Saban is number one with $4.7 million dollars annually. Les Miles of the LSU Tigers is ranked second with $3.75 million dollars. The third rank coach is Arkansas' Bobby Petrino with $3.56 million dollars. Coach Gene Chizik will be entering his third year at Auburn. He is 22-5 so far at Auburn (8-5 in his first year and 14-0 this year). Gene Chizik won bowl games in both his years at Auburn. He won the 2010 Outback Bowl on New Year's Day over Northwestern and this year's national title against Oregon Ducks. This year's national title was Chizik's second national title. His first was with the 2005 Texas Longhorns as a defensive coordinator.
