Giants lie to Umenyiora

The New York Giants defensive end, Osi Umenyiora, had been lied to by his owner. He has been promised by the Giants that if he performed at a high level, his contract will be renegotiated. Now that the promises have been broken, Osi Umenyiora is filing in federal court in Minnesota next month, which is part of the antitrust lawsuit against the NFL. He stated that general manager, Jerry Reese, did not follow through on his promises. Osi Umenyiora had not forgetten them. He had an hour meeting in April 2008 with the general manager. Jerry Reese told Osi Umenyiora in the meeting that if he was still performing at a high level two years from 2008, Reese would renegotiate his contract to be equal with the top five defensive ends in the league or he would be traded to a team that would pay him that type of money. At the end of the meeting, Osi Umenyiora asked the general manager, “If he was absolutely sure that would be the case.” Reese told Umenyiora, “he was honest and a church-going man that wouldn't lie.” The National Players Association said that Umenyiora has suffered; the main reason why it reached out to him as one of the plaintiffs in the Tom Brady vs. NFL antitrust case. It seemed that Osi Umenyiora made up his mind about his future with the New York Giants. He moved out his home in New Jersey with plans to become an Atlanta resident, where he spent most of his time over the last six years.
During the offseason, Osi Umenyiora underwent to remove a piece of bone from his hip, which bothered him last season. The production of Umenyiora has increased from the last two years. In 2009, he had 7 sacks, 4 fumbles recovered, and 4 forced fumbles in 16 games. In 2010, he had 11.5 sacks and 10 forced fumbles in 16 games. It seems that Osi Umenyiora belongs in the top five defensive ends payout, but not everyone in the NFL agrees with this. LeSean McCoy, Philadelphia Eagles running back said, Umenyiora is “Overrated n soft 3rd best d-line on his team honestly,” on his twitter account. Whenever the lockout will be alleviated, the Giants owe Osi Umenyiora $3.5 million dollars this season, who also has two years left on his contract.
