He’s No Pie Eater has won the $500,000 Group One Dubai Rosehill Guineas (2000m) on Saturday.
Starting at eight dollars, up against a first class field and returning from a spell, He’s No Pie Eater was an outside chance at best.
But despite the win it is unlikely that He’s No Pie Eater will back up next Saturday in the $2.25 million G1 BMW over 2400m according to trainer Graeme Rogerson.
Travelling in a forward position, He’s No Pie Eater moved up the outside of the leader at the 800m mark and forged ahead on straightening. He shot clear denying Ambitious General and Fiumicino at the close.
The Peter Moody-trained Ambitious General performed well ahead of the AJC Australian Derby. He was forced off on straightening before unleashing a burst of speed, just falling short at the finish.
Third-placed Fiumicino turned in a strong performance despite his lack of experience.
Favourite Teranaba led for the first 1000m where he was checked badly approaching the turn and dropped out, finishing second last.
The time for the 2000m was 2.02.76 with the final 600m run in 35.49.
