Inzamam-ul-Haq dedicated Pakistan's consolation World Cup victory to the late Bob Woolmer
An emotional Inzamam-ul-Haq dedicated Pakistan's consolation World Cup victory over Zimbabwe to the late Bob Woolmer.
Inzamam made a tearful exit from one-day international cricket in Kingston, Jamaica, as Pakistan bowed out of the tournament with a 93-run win over Zimbabwe.
The retiring captain hit a quick-fire 37 in Pakistan's total of 349 and held onto three catches to help secure a 93-run win in a rain-affected match to provide the perfect tribute to Pakistan's coach Woolmer, whose sudden death is being treated with suspicion by police.
"We dedicate this game to Bob because he's a wonderful person," said Inzamam, who had announced his decision to retire from one-day international cricket in the wake of Pakistan's shock defeat by Ireland.
"He's not in this world now and every Pakistani and every cricket lover is sad. I'm also very sad and what's why I'm emotional, also after playing 16 or 17 years.
"Thank you to my family and my father, who has supported me in good times and bad times.
"I will miss everything, the ground, the dressing room, everything."
Opening batsman Imran Nazir, named man of the match for his 121-ball innings of 160, echoed his captain's sentiments.
"Today we were very upset because we lost Bob and we miss him and also Inzamam, who is a very good captain," he told Sky Sports.
