John Worsfold clears the West Coast air
March 22nd 2007 11:59
John Worsfold spoke freely and frankly about the drug problem that has swept through the West Coast Eagles on Channel 9's Footy Show on Thursday night.
Worsfold said issues surrounding Ben Cousins and illicit drugs had been on his mind since July, 2006, when Cousins failed to present to a Monday morning training session.
Since then, Cousins, among other players, had come under the scrutiny of Worsfold, who admitted he had been lied to by a number of players.
Worsfold was mystified by the AFL's drug testing policy and procedures and said he would like the process to have more transperency.
Worsfold also admitted he separated a potential physical brawl between Andrew Embley and Daniel Chick earlier this week. The pair had arranged to meet and 'let off some steam', through boxing, but Worsfold intervened.
The interview was wide ranging and revealed just how much of a problem the AFL is facing to deter players from taking illicit substances.
It's good to see The Footy Show back to breaking issues and dealing with problems in the league. Losing the rights could be a blessing in disguise.
