Li Na, First Asian To Win A Major

Li Na became the first china's first major champion winner today by winning the French Open; she was the first to win a major from an Asian nation. Li Na won in straight sets against the defending champion, Francesca Schiavone. Li Na won the first set, 6-4, and the second set 7-6. In the second set, the game went into a tie breaker, Li Na won 7-0. Li Na had 31 winners compared to Schiavone's 12. Schiavone had fewer unforced errors than Li Na, 17-24. Li Na won the first game in the second set, and saved a break point with an ace to begin the set, 2-0. Francesca fought back in tied the set at 4-4 in the second. Li Na dropped her serve for the first time in the late second set, but she won the last nine points to lead her to her first major title. This title was the fifth in Li Na career, but the French Open title was the first for her on clay. With this win on Saturday, Li Na is expected to climb to number four in the rankings. This equals the highest ranking by an Asian woman. The other Asian woman was Kimiko Date-Krumm.
