Mason Is Dropped From Baltimore
July 26th 2011 14:43
Now that the NFL lockout is finally over, the Baltimore Ravens cut wide receiver, Derrick Mason. Mason will be released when the league calender permits it. Sources told Adam Schefter of ESPN's NFL Insider that the Ravens will be cutting running back, Willis McGahee, tight end, Todd Heap, and defensive tackle, Kelly Gregg. Mason, who is 37, was the most productive of the four guys that are being cut. He caught 61 passes for 802 yards, and seven touchdowns. His production did drop last season, which was the season the Ravens added Anquan Boldin. Mason told Baltimore Sun, “It is bittersweet. I understand the business of football, and I understand what has to be done in the business of football. It was good while I was there... Mason signed with the Ravens in 2005 after nine season with the Tennessee Titans. Despite playing in a run-oriented offense, Mason accumulated 1,000 yards in four of his six season at Baltimore. He has also told the Baltimore Sun, “This is just another chip on my shoulder.”
