Pujols Out For 4-6 Weeks

The first baseman and three time MVP, Albert Pujols has sprained his left forearm and will be out for 4-6 weeks. He hurt his forearm when Wilson Betemit hit a chopper up the middle off the Cardinals' starter, Jaime Garcia, and the second baseman, Pete Kozma threw the ball back-handed while in the air, which caused Pujols to come off the bag, and Wilson Betemit hit Pujols' glove when Albert tried to tag Betemit at first base. This caused Albert Pujols to go down to the ground after the play was over, and he was aching in pain. His manager, Tony La Russa, said he went through a range of emotions when he saw Albert Pujols go down. La Russa said, “It scared the hell out of all of us.” “It smoked him pretty good. The doctor said he has good strength so that makes us kind of optimistic. First indications are that we caught a break.” When asked about the play, Kansas City Royals' third baseman, Wilson Betemit said, “The collision was unavoidable.” He described the play that when Betemit was running hard and the ball was arriving at the same time to the first base, Wilson Betemit said “I couldn't do anything about it.” He said Albert Pujols hit him on his left arm, and the only way for him to be safe is to hit the ball out of his glove. Betemit reiterated by saying, “That's part of the game. I couldn't do anything about it.” Albert Pujols finished the game by going 3-3 with a home run, his 17th of the year. That home run gave the Cardinals a 3-2 lead. The Cardinals went on to win the game, 5-4, off of Skip Schumaker's ninth inning home run yesterday.
