Rose Wins League's MVP
May 3rd 2011 20:13
Despite last night's loss and re-aggravating his ankle, Derrick Rose wins the league's MVP in his third year. At the age of 22, Rose is the youngest to win this prestigious award after leading his team to the best record in the regular season at 62-20, and the overall number one seed. In his MVP season, he averaged 25 points, 7.7 assists, and 4.1 rebounds in the regular season. This is with Carlos Boozer and Joakim Noah missing a good portion of the regular season due to injuries.
The MVP adds to his spectacular career to go along with him being the number one pick in the 2008 draft, winning the world championship in the summer with the USA national team, starting in this year's all-star team, after becoming a reserve last year, and becoming the third player in the last thirty years to score 2000 points and have 600 assists in a season (The last two were LeBron James and Michael Jordan). He won his first playoff series against the Indiana Pacer, 4 to 1. Rose averaged 27.6 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.6 rebounds in that series. The quiet South Side Chicago native caught people off guard when he said earlier in season, “Why can't I be MVP of the league?” Derrick Rose and his coach, Tom Thibodeau, will be the 12th duo in NBA history to win both the Coach of the Year and the NBA MVP.
