Rough Day For Brewers
May 12th 2011 02:56
Today was a rough day for the Milwaukee Brewers, who were trailing 5-0 by the third inning, but gained the lead by the sixth, 6 to 5. The Brewers allowed eight runs in the eighth inning to end up losing the game, 13 to 6. In the beginning of the game, Chris Denorfia led off the game with a homer to help the Padres built a 5-0 lead. Then Prince Fielder hit his 200th career home run, which was a two run blast; Yuniesky Betancourt's solo jack in the sixth inning helped the Milwaukee Brewers gained a 6-5 lead. The reason the Brewers lost their lead was because of the collapse of the bull pen after Wolfe could not finish the fourth inning. Mitch Stetter allowed a single to Brad Hawpe, then he was taken out of the game for Kameron Loe, who talked the manager into letting him play. Loe allowed consecutive singles to Denorfia and Bartlett that tied the game at 6. Chase Headley of the Padres was intentionally walked after a sacrifice bunt, and Maybin delivered with a double. Headley scored easily on a throwing error by Ryan Braun that made the score, 9-6, in the favor of the Padres. It only got worse for the Brewers when Ludwick hit a 2 run home run off of Mike McClendon, which ended his 0-21 skid. The lead was 11-6. The Padres added two more runs when Hawpe and Bartlett scored on singles in the eighth. Chad Qualls pitched 1 1/3 innings to capture a win for the Padres, while Loe took the lose for the Brewers. The Padres had a season high of 23 hits for their club, but Milwaukee won the series 2 to 1.
