Round 13 and 14 of the ANZ Championship (Netball)
June 22nd 2010 07:44
So finally I'm back in the blogging game after a hectic couple of weeks dealing with outside issues and for my first blog, I'd like to focus on the last 2 rounds of the ANZ Championship before the finals. For those who don't recall, I did a bit of a prediction in my last netball blog and had the top 4 as follows
NSW Swifts
Adelaide Thunderbirds
Queensland Firebirds
BOP Magic/Southern Steel
----------------------------- --------------
BOP Magic/Southern Steel
Looks like my prediction was 75% accurate as a remarkable final couple of rounds unfolded
Round 13
Pulse 52 lost to BOP Magic 58
Vixens 46 lost to Swifts 58
Thunderbirds 54 defeated Fever 45
Firebirds 75 defeated Tactix 32
Mystics 43 lost to Steel 50
So far, so good in terms of result prediction. Unfortunately my result prediciton went slightly haywire in the now traditional last round containing upsets and shocks
Round 14
BOP Magic 53 defeated Thunderbirds 44 (Didn't see this coming)
Fever 67 defeated Firebirds 59 (Certainly didn't tip this)
Tactix 47 lost to Mystics 58
Pulse 48 lost to Vixens 49
Swifts 55 defeated Steel 38
So at the end of the most bewildering round of Netball, the ladder now sits as follows (percentage provided in event of ties)
Swifts 26
Thunderbirds 18 (116.21%)
BOP Magic 18 (108.95%)
Steel 16
----------------------------- -------------------
Firebirds 14 (113.99%)
Mystics 14 (99.15%)
Vixens 12
Fever 10
Pulse 2 (80.05%)
Tactix 2 (74.25%)
Couple of real shocks here with the Firebirds throwing away their advantage by losing to the Fever in the last round. Also was stunned to see the BOP Magic roll the Thunderbirds but they do certainly have the quality. The wooden spoon was decided by % and was a challenge to see which team could get flogged by less. Ultimately the Pulse won that contest and for the first time ever finish off the bottom.
So with all that done and dusted, the finals are as follows
Major Semi Final
Swifts v Thunderbirds @ ACER Arena, Sydney from 2:50pm (June 27th)
Minor Semi Final
BOP Magic v Steel @ Vector Arena, Auckland from 7:20pmNZ (June 28th)
Let's hope that the high standard of Netball continues in the finals
