The South Carolina Gamecocks have won the College World Series finals against the Florida Gator. They won the game, 5-2, and swept the Gators in the finals. The Gamecocks won their second consecutive championship in a row; the sixth team to win consecutive national titles. They have won 16 straight games in the NCAA tournament and 11 straight in the CWS, which are the longest all-time for both. South Carolina went 10-0 in this year's tournament and the first since Oregon in 2007 to go undefeated in the College World Series. Michael Roth was the starting pitcher for the Gamecocks in the series clincher. He pitched 7 2/3 innings on three days rest. He came into the season with a 0.98 ERA and was taken out this game with two outs in the eighth after giving up a double to Mike Zunino, who scored later on off his teammate, Josh Adams' single. Mike Zunino hit a home run off of Roth in the fourth inning. That was Zunino's 19th homer of the season. The Florida starting pitcher, Karsten Whitson, started out strong by striking out three of the first six batters. He pitched 4 2/3 innings. For the Gamecocks, Peter Mooney hit a double to start the third inning and also hit the Gamecocks' first home run of the World Series in the sixth inning. Evan Marzilli came home when shortstop, Nolan Fontana, swiped at and missed Christian Walker's grounder; Brady Thomas brought in another run with his infield single. South Carolina scored three runs in the third inning. Scott Wingo was the CWS' Most Outstanding Player.
