Summary of Round One
April 30th 2011 13:16
In the Eastern Conference, the number one seeded, Chicago Bulls, struggle with the Indiana Pacers in game one, but found a way to the win the game, and then the next two, but lost game four. Derrick Rose had Injured himself in game four in that lost to the Pacers. He bounced back in game five, and the Bulls finished off the Pacers in that game to advance to the second round of the playoffs to face the Atlanta Hawks. The Indiana Pacers showed a lot of heart and determination against the Bulls, and I applauded them for that. The second seeded, Miami Heat, easily took care of the Philadelphia 76ers in five games. The 76ers did show heart in game four where they were on the brink of elimination. Jrue Holiday and Lou Williams both hit a huge three to extend their season.
The third seeded, Boston Celtics, faced the New York Knicks, and most people thought this would be a intriguing series, because the Celtics were struggling after the trade of Kendrick Perkins and the Knicks were on a hot streak at the end of the regular season. Unfortunately, that was far the truth, while the Celtics swept the Knicks, but the Knicks did put a good effort. The Knicks need to work on how to play some defense. The four seeded, Orlando Magic had a surprise awakening against the Atlanta Hawks, who won the series 4 to 2. The Atlanta Hawks won game one, and stole home court advantage from the Magic. In game three, Jason Richardson and Zaza Pachuila, got into a physical altercation where both players were suspended one game. In game five, after the suspension, Jason Richardson had a great game against the Hawks, and led his team with 17 points. The Hawks would win the next game and series to face the Bulls.
In the Western Conference, the one seeded, San Antonio Spurs, had their season ended last night against the Memphis Grizzlies, who have not won a series in ten seasons. The Memphis were led by Zach Randolph, who had a monstrous series. The Grizzlies won a game in San Antonio to steal home court advantage, and then won all their home games in order to advance to face the Thunder. The Spurs did not win any games against the Grizzlies in Memphis in the regular season. In game five where the Spurs were on the brink of elimination, Gary Neal, the rookie, was the hero by hitting a three with 1.7 seconds to send that game into overtime. The Spurs won that game, but eventually fell in the next one. The second seeded, Los Angeles Lakers, had a tough time with the New Orleans Hornets, especially losing the first game of the series to them, with CP3 scoring 33 points in that game. The Lakers would avenge that lose, and win game two, but they have lost home court advantage at that point. Game three, the Los Angeles Lakers took that game in order to restore home court advantage, but they lost game four. In game four, Kobe Bryant hurt his ankle, but responded well in game five and six to end that series.
The third seeded, Dallas Mavericks, had their hands full with the Trail Blazers, where some people had the Blazers winning that series. In the first two games, the Dallas Mavericks won those games, but the next two games, the Blazers won. The Mavericks fans and everyone else were having a flashback of the 2006 finals where the Mavericks faced the Miami Heat. The Mavericks won the first two games, and then lost the next two at Miami; the next two after that. People were wondering, could this be 2006 all over again. Well in game four, the Dallas Mavericks had a huge lead after three quarters, and the game was pretty over in people's mind, including myself. The Dallas Mavericks thought they had this game in the bag, but then Mr. Roy took over the game in the four quarter, scoring 18 of his 24 points in that quarter. Like Mark Jackson always says, “Momma, there goes that man.” After the post game interview, he said that the Blazers needed a special win in order to have a chance in that series; the Trail Blazer coach said that Brandon Roy was his old self, where he did not pass the ball and took over games, and they needed that Roy to show up in that game. But at end the Mavericks won the next two games, and won that series. The four seeded, Oklahoma Thunder, had an easy series with the Denver Nuggets, who looked good after the Camelo Anthony trade. They were better than most people thought. The Oklahoma won the first three games, but in game four, Russell Westbrook took a lot of bad shots, and him and Kevin Durant got into in the huddle on the sidelines. Russell and Kevin must have come to an agreement, because in game five, they bounced from that lost, and won the game and series to face the Grizzlies in round two. Off to round two, where the arguing and phsyical altercations will most likely be more intensified. I hope round two will be exciting as round one was.
