According to Foxsports.com.au, Tander, the only West Australian in the field clocked 56.05 sec as he attempts to win the Perth race for the first time in his career, with the Holden man finishing faster than another Holden in Rick Kelly (56.27) and Ford's Craig Lowndes (56.36).
Mark Skaife was only just behind, polling fourth with a 56.38 sec time, while his Holden racing teammate Todd Kelly came in fifth through a 56.39 time.
The round comprises of three 50-lap races over the two days, yet Ford's Jason Bright will not be able to take part in any of those, with his Falcon BF being shipped back to Melbourne after sustaining extensive damage in a practice collision.
