There Will Be A New Champ In 2011

May 8th 2011 22:40
In a do or die game for the Lakers, Phil Jackson was asked, “How does it feel that you might have played your last game in the Staples Center.” Jackson's response was, “ I will be there on Tuesday in game five.” Phil Jackson felt confident that the Lakers will win game four in Dallas. Prior to an hour of game four, he was fined $35,000 for complaining to the referees about Dallas defenders kneeing Pau Gasol out of his position on the post.

Could Phil Jackson back up his comment. In game four of the Lakers vs. Mavericks series, the Dallas Mavericks spread the court very well with its ball movement. The Mavericks hit 11 of 15 threes, while shooting 60% from the field in the first half, and finished with 60% in the game. Those 11 threes in the first half tied an NBA record for the playoffs. The Lakers only made 11 threes in this entire series up to this point, going 1 of 8 for threes in the first half. The player of this game went to Jason Terry, who scored 32 points off the bench, making nine of ten threes. His nine threes tied for the best in the playoffs. He made 11 out of 14 from the field. Peja Stojakovic scored 21 points, including 6 for 6 behind the three point land. For Dallas, it seemed like the bench did most of scoring for the Mavericks. Dallas blew out the Lakers, 122 to 86 in game four. For the Lakers, their top player was Kobe Bryant, who scored only 17 points. The Lakers had an all around bad game. They shot 38 % from the field as a team, and only made five of 24 from threes. The Lakers became so frustrated that Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum both resorted of throwing cheap shots towards the Dallas Mavericks. Odom was ejected for a blow to Dirk Nowitzki, and Bynum was ejected for elbowing Barea while he was in the air after releasing the ball for a layup. Barea finished with 22 points, which is his career playoff best. This was the first sweep that Phil Jackson had been apart of. He will head off into retirement.
