quentinTsonga Makes Great Comeback Against Federer

Roger Federer, the 16 time Grand Slam champion, lost in five sets to the Frenchman, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga after being up two sets. Federer won the first two set, 6-3 and 7-6(3), respectively. Then Jo-Wilfried broke Federer in each of the last three sets. That seemed to be the turning point in those sets. Prior to this match, Federer was 178-0 when winning the first two sets at a major tournament. He finished with 11 unforced errors and 58 winners. Tsonga had twice as many unforced errors and five more winners than Federer. Roger Federer was playing in his 29th straight major quarterfinals and was trying to tie Pete Sampras' record of seven Wimbeldon singles titles; he was a 13-8 odd favorite to win the Wimbeldon tournament. Of his six Wimbeldon title, he won five straight from 2003 to 2007. Federer lost in the 2008 final against Rafa Nadal, but won his sixth one in '09. After the defeat, Federer was a good sport. He said, “It's kind of hard going out of the tournament that way, but unfortunately it does happen sometimes... At least it took him (Tsonga) sort of a performance to beat me, which is somewhat nice.” Prior to this match, Federer was 4-1 against Tsonga in head to head matches. Tsonga said of his win against Federer “I just played unbelievable, served unbelievable and now I am here, I'm in the semifinals and I can't believe it.” Tsonga will now face Novak Djokovic, who defeated Bernard Tomic in four sets: 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Some are saying that Tsonga is the favorite against Novak Djokovic, despite being ranked number 12. Tsonga is 5-2 against Djokovic in career meetings.
